In Honor of a Special Son, Brother & Friend

I’d like to talk about a special person I had the honor of calling my friend.

Alexis Cruz, age 23, of Las Vegas, Nevada passed away on Saturday, August 07, 2021. He was born November 22, 1997 in Los Angeles, California to his parents Araceli and Santos Cruz who later migrated to Las Vegas, Nevada. Growing up Alexis showed to be a great friend to those around him and a caring older brother to Nestor Cruz. After meeting his family I finally understood who raised Alex to be the great man he was in life.

Alexis graduated from East Career and Technical Academy and continued to pursue a career in Security until he was ready to apply to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. Alexis’ dream was to one day be a Police Officer to serve and protect his community. Participating in the LVMPD Explorer Program where he would train with everyday heroes. He showed true courage and devotion to making his dream a reality but was called home before he could make it true.

If you ever had the opportunity to be in his presence you know he was loud and full of life. He had a heart of gold that never ceased to help those around him. Alexis was the friend you could call at any hour of the day, he would always have time for those he loved. He touched many lives, shared many laughs and created memories that will last a lifetime. He is forever missed and will never be forgotten.

A message to his family:

Thank you for bringing this beautiful soul into the world. Thank you for sharing him with us. Alexis will always be one of my closest friends and his memory will live on. I wish that I could take your pain away but I cannot but what I can do is assure you that your son left a footprint in everyone’s life he met.

To his parents, I hope and pray that God grants you the strength to continue living each and everyday with the best memories you have of him. You raised a kind hearted and free spirit that changed the atmosphere of a room as he stepped in. Alexis was always proud of having you both in his life.

To Nestor, I know firsthand the pain of losing an older sibling suddenly without warning. My heart is with you and know that you will never be alone. Alexis loved you so much. Be easy on yourself, it’s a journey that will give you strength to overcome anything. You have him watching over you.

Take the ones you love and hold them close because there is little time and don’t let it break your heart. I know it feels hopeless sometimes but they’re never really gone, as long as there’s a memory in your mind.

Alexis’ memorial included a special send off from close friends with a special Halo tribute.
